![]() A haunting rendition of “Song of the Ancients” can be heard on the album’s website. ![]() Square Enix has slowly come to recognize this by preparing arrangement albums and concert performances in the past as well as this upcoming piano collections CD slated for March 21 featuring arrangements by Kumi Tanioka ( Final Fantasy XI and Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles composer), Masato Kouda ( Monster Hunter series, El Shaddai), and many others. Secondly, while I know some out there wonder why Square Enix is still putting out Nier albums, I can tell you that it’s some of the best music Square Enix has released in years and is considered by many game music enthusiasts (myself included) to be the best soundtrack of 2010. You can check out a sample of the series theme, “Dearly Beloved” on the flashy website that Square Enix has created solely for the soundtrack. Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance will receive a three-disc soundtrack release on April 18th, featuring music by series veteran Yoko Shimomura and Square Enix staff composers Takeharu Ishimoto and Tsuyoshi Sekito. (Also some of the ex-retro devs who worked on Prime worked on Returnal, and it shows).Square Enix has announced the release dates for two of its most anticipated music releases of 2012. Having 100% Returnal after playing Prime at the very least once a year for the last 21 years, I can confirm that it scratches the same itch, but with a lot of great new things with it. With that on my mind going into it for the first time, it was clear that while it was not quite the same, it was a very justified comparison, especially with the way you eventually earn metroid-style permanent suit upgrades that give you new abilities allowing you to explore better. It doesn't exactly replicate the feeling you're talking about and that I'm very familiar with, but when my best friend recommended it to me, he said it's like if Metroid Prime was a roguelite and a bit darker. Secondly, I highly recommend trying out Returnal. Anyone else feel what I'm trying to say? I don't know if I effectively explained what I mean when I say "a game like Metroid Prime".įirstly, I love how relatable the IHOP story is, because I have a memory of trying to beat the Omega Pirate for the first time and getting grounded because it made us late for church lol. It never had the challenge, but imagining a modern game in Prime's style, with a FromSoftware kind of progression makes me want it so bad. There was a similar feeling, a similar process to Metroid Prime. There's so much potential, and I even think it might be a better experience after the success of Dark Souls. Now I'm on the Chozo Ruins main theme, imagining larger rooms with more complex architecture and interesting puzzles. Imagine if you had encounters like the Space Pirate fights that were more challenging, more intimidating and chaotic. ![]() With modern tech, the feelings Prime created could be even more intense. You have no idea what waits around the next corner or behind the next door. A pure single player experience that drops you into this world with little indication of what you should do or where to go. I want a world crafted with the utmost care and intention, to make the player love it and love exploring it. I'm listening to the first Tallon Overworld theme right now, and the feelings it still brings to mind make me want another video game like this, even if it's not a Metroid game. I gained a new level of respect for it when I finally played Super Metroid on the Wii years ago and saw how perfectly Prime replicated the formula of the best 2D game in 3D. I just wanted to get breakfast done with and go back to beating that boss.Īnyway, you get it. I remember a Sunday morning, reaching Metroid Prime in the Impact Crater, and failing to beat it before my family went out for breakfast at IHOP. The entire Metroid soundtrack was later released as Game Sound Museum Famicom Edition 12 Metroid. Much of the Metroid soundtrack was included in Super Metroid: Sound in Action. Songs with conjectural names are denoted by quotation marks. I played through it countless times, normally, on Hard, different percentages, doing all of the sequence breaks because it was the first version of the game with no changes.I still remember living in the apartment we had at the time, going through this world for my first Metroid experience, being overwhelmed and amazed by the journey. This is a list of music in the Metroid series. I lost my original copy of the game years ago and it still hurts. Metroid Prime might be my favorite game of all time. I haven't picked up the remaster yet, but I'm going to.
